Age 73, at his home in Ocean City, NJ on Tuesday, May 8, 2018. John will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Kathleen (Dlugos) Dougherty; his best friend, Richard Goimarac; his niece, Bryrony (Andrew) Homan; his nephew, Jason (Jill) Dougherty; and by his great-niece and great-nephews, Amelia Margaret, Maxwell James and Miles John; preceding him in death were his parents, John Dlugos, Sr. and Margaret (Meneilly) Dlugos. Born and raised in Heidelberg, PA, John graduated from Duquesne University with his undergrad and Master's Degree. He taught social studies in the Chartiers Valley School District for 35 years until retiring in 1999. At that time, John made a permanent move to his home in Ocean City, NJ which he had purchased when he was just 25. A man of few needs and generous to a fault, John loved the shore and visits from family and friends. He enjoyed boating and taking care of his beautiful shore house. No one took more pride in hard work than John. A perfect day was hours of work in and around the house followed by a couple of beers and an Ocean City sunset. Memorials in the name of John Dlugos may be made to the Sisters of Charity at Seton Hill, Depaul Center, 144 Depaul Center Rd., Greensburg, PA 15601.
