An incredibly loved woman full of optimism, genuine compassion, kindness and a never-ending love for her family, Helen was a lifelong resident of Carnegie and Heidelberg for her 93 years.

Daughter of the late John and Mary from Ukraine, she was wife of the late Louis (Lou) Kleer, and the proud mother of her five children: Alan (Kelsey) Kleer, Lori Kleer-Smith, Steven (Cheryl) Kleer, and the late Edward ‘Eddie’ (Karen) and David (Alane) Kleer.

Family always had a wonderfully large presence in her life, with her being one of the 13 Homa siblings. Helen was sister to Johanna Puleo and the late Vladimir ‘Luddy’, John, Russell, Wasyl, Michael ‘Famous,’ and Andrew Homa, Mary Buckho, Amelia ‘Millie’ Nixon, Olga Makowski, Maxine Bladel and Elizabeth Flory. She was an aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

This big family presence continues on, with Helen being survived by 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Regularly connected to her iPad, she was always just one call, photo, email, cute emoji-filled text message, or FaceTime call away.

Never once driving a car in her life, Helen was remarkably well-travelled. She regularly visited her brother Russell in Nebraska and went to Philadelphia with her sister Johanna. She went along on family vacations to Hawaii, the Outer Banks, New York, and Georgia; travelled to Florida with her dear friend Jolynn and family, plus took other trips around the country.

She attended countless birthday parties, school concerts, graduation ceremonies, musicals, church plays, soccer matches, softball games, wrestling matches, hockey games, cheerleading events, dance shows, chorus and band concerts, making sure to spend as much time as possible with each and every one of her grandchildren and extended family.

She was a lover of all things chocolate, romance novels, the Pittsburgh Penguins, Brownie Brittle, Chupa Chups lollipops, McDonald’s Happy Meals, and could never pass up a Starbucks Frappuccino.

Potato pancakes and nut cups were her culinary specialties. She was highly skilled at bowling, regularly taking the top score spot no matter her age. Her voice was a regular to yell ‘BINGO’ at fire halls and church picnics. She also put up a very strong competition when playing Nintendo, especially the games Q*bert and Bubble Bobble. She loved to feed the squirrels and birds that visited her home. If you ever needed a coupon for anything, she would have one cut out and waiting for you.

Christmas Eve was always a time when the extended family got together, with all the cousins discussing what Santa might be bringing them this year.

Helen will be remembered for the large amount of love she gave to, and will continuously receive by, her grandchildren and their partners: Lee Ann, Kimberly (Joel), Ashley, Colin (Danielle), Rebekah (Joseph), Tristan (Jess), Meredith (Joseph), April (David), Aimee (Stephen), and Alicia (Zachary); great-grandchildren Katie, Hunter, Aaron, Blake, Luca, Kristopher, Wyatt, Ezra, Sergio, Azalea, Indigo, and Sage Helena; great-great-grandchild Annabel; and future generations to come.

Helen peacefully passed with many of her grandchildren by her side on Wednesday, June 24, 2020. She will be dearly missed, but never for one second be forgotten.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the SZAFRANSKI-EBERLEIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., where Family and Friends will be received Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at 101 Third Street, Carnegie. A Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
