Age 93, on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 after a brief illness. Wife of the late Bernard C. Brilmyer; Loving mother of George (Carleen), Steve, Mark (Vicki), Jeffrey (Terez) Brilmyer, Patti (Doug) Bowland, and Terri (Bo) Eaborn; Sister of Vince (Kelly) and the late Howard Jr. (late Peggy), Thomas (late Janet), and Bernie (Rosemary survives) Prostko; Ruth also leaves this earth with 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Ruth was born on November 4, 1929, in McKees Rocks, PA the oldest daughter of Howard F. and Pearl (Domanski) Prostko. After graduating with a teaching degree from Duquesne University, she taught kindergarten only briefly, before her marriage to Bernard C. Brilmyer and her new family took center stage. Under her care and guidance, her six children grew to be responsible, caring adults and she taught us to be independent, inquisitive, self-challenging and persevering. She also taught us how to hammer a nail and plaster a wall. We all remember the doorway she cut through the living room wall, as dad was out of town on a business trip! Oh, how she worried he would come home before the door project was complete (in the end he loved it!). While playing pseudo-mother to our childhood friends (who lovingly called her “Mrs. B”) she put up with our menagerie of cars, motorcycles, dogs, turtles, raccoons and snakes!
Ruth was also an avid reader (loved Dick Francis novels), an excellent seamstress and an amazing quilter. We all enjoy having at least one of her beautiful 9-patch quilts.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the SZAFRANSKI-EBERLEIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., where family and friends will be received on Sunday, June 18, 2023, from 1-4PM, at 101 Third Street, Carnegie. A Blessing Service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, June 19, 2023, at 10:30 AM. Following the Blessing Service, Ruth will be laid to rest with her husband, Bernard, in The National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
