Emily Gudewicz

Went to her eternal reward on Wednesday, March 22, 2023. Emily was born in Glendale, PA on September 27, 1934 to the late Martin, Sr. and the late Sophia (Kowalski) Gudewicz. Her brother, Edmund preceded her in death. She was a sister to Martin J. (Nancy), Dorothy, Fr. John, and Richard Gudewicz. Her nieces and nephews are Cynthia (Terence) Byrne, Thomas, Jr. (Jeanine) Schultz, Michael (Amy) Schultz, Kathleen (Thomas) Spray, Suzanne (John) Ruskin, Martin Paul Gudewicz, and Jacob Gudewicz. Her great-nieces and great-nephews, Lauren (Charles) Terpenning, Katelyn, Nicholas and Daniel Schultz, Andrew, Meghan Byrne, Alexander, Henry Ruskin and Morgan Schultz. She had many cousins and friends.

She attended St. Ignatius Grade School and graduated from Scott Township High School (class of 1952). After high school graduation, she worked for Lincoln National Life Insurance company as a stenographer for about a year and then at Superior Steel Corporation as a secretary in the purchasing department for a year. In 1954, Emily began her 55 year career with the Chartiers Valley School District when she started working as the school secretary for Scott Township High School. She held various positions in the Chartiers Valley School District throughout the rest of her career and was secretary to the Superintendents from 1972 until her retirement in 2010.

She liked to travel and she visited many countries in the world and many states in the United States, going to many national educational secretary (NAEOP) conventions. She loved attending shows, movies and plays in Pittsburgh. She enjoyed her family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the SZAFRANSKI-EBERLEIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., where family and friends will be received on Sunday, March 26, 2023 from 2-6 pm at 101 Third St., Carnegie. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place in St. Raphael the Archangel Parish, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton church on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 10 am. Following Mass, Emily will be laid to rest in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
