March 12, 2023
On Sunday, March 12, 2023. Beloved father of Katie Michenko and Kelsey (Aaron) Michenko-Hellman; former spouse of Karen Michenko; also survived by cousins, including Pam Swent (Paul Maniago).
David Andrew Michenko was born May 26th 1961. The son of Joan and Edward Michenko and raised in Scott Township Pa. He attended Chartiers Valley High School where he was a great athlete and solidified friendships that would last a lifetime. Dave received a football scholarship to Kansas State University where he played and graduated in four years. He spent time in Texas after graduating and at the first opportunity returned home to Pittsburgh to the people he loved. On his return home he met Karen, his now ex-wife, and had two children together. Despite them being divorced, they dedicated their lives to making the world a better place for their kids.
Dave and Karen together raised their children, Katie and Kelsey, knowing they are endlessly loved and supported. Dave was everything for his kids; softball coach, trick or treat bag holder, Chief of the Indian Princess Tribe, go-to for any and all weekday breakfast dates, attempted golf coach, and general life cheerleader. Dave knew what it was to be young, live in the moment and how quick that can be taken away. He was an avid trail walker, loved his backyard animals yet not so much the inside domesticated type. Dave would go to battle year after year with the poison ivy, to which he got every time. His newly found love for trains made his friends and family question his sanity however he loved to watch the country side speed by. He loved the simpler times in his early years and loved to reminisce and offer life lessons he gathered along the way.
His friends call him by several nicknames, if you were a good friend of Dave’s a nick name would soon follow. His lifelong friends were an extended family through shared memories and adventures that have bonded them together throughout their lives. The greatest thing Dave did for his friends was leave them with unforgettable stories. Not just funny stories but the type of stories that will paralyze you with laughter. Grab your stomach, bend over, fall to the ground funny stories that everyone else wishes they could’ve been there. We will never find anyone more entertaining and charming than Dave. He really was a one-of-a-kind person that will be overwhelmingly missed. Dave passed away in the early morning, with Karen at his side. Family and friends will forever ache inside knowing he will not be seen again however the endless memories will last a lifetime.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the SZAFRANSKI-EBERLEIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., where family and friends will be received on Friday, March 17, 2023 from 6-8 PM and Saturday, March 18, 2023 from 10 am - 12 noon at 101 Third Street, Carnegie, PA.
