On Monday, October 9, 2023, Age 96. Beloved husband of Jeanne (Stys) Podurgiel; son of the late Adolph, Sr. and Justyna Podurgiel; loving father of Kimberly Rivera (James Long), David (Laura) Podurgiel, and the late Jeffrey Podurgiel; devoted grandfather (“Pap”) of Raquel (Dr. Jose) Abad and Franco Rivera (Piotr Kraskowski); proud great-grandfather (“Peepaw”) of Daphne Abad; brother of the late Blanche Pajak, Della Locke, Pauline Bioni, Lottie Baird, Tess Schafer, Edward Podurgiel, Walter Podurgiel, and Lt. Col. Emanuel Podurgal; also survived by generations of nieces and nephews; a very special thank you to nephew, John Pajak.
Yosty was a graduate of Scott Township High School. After graduating from high school, he entered the Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS President Jackson, during which time he was the Captain’s Jeep driver and coxswain of the Higgins Boats. Yosty also proudly carried the distinction as a member of the “Unholy Four”: the USS Jackson, the USS Crescent City, the USS President Hayes, and the USS President Adams crossed the International Date Line together, from a Saturday to a Monday. A comment was made that it was “unholy” to skip a Sunday; the Captain entered the comment in the USS Jackson’s log and thereafter the four ships became known as the “Unholy Four”. After discharge from the Navy, Yosty studied Dairy Husbandry at the Pennsylvania State University, before working for his family’s dairy, The Glendale Dairy. He was a member of the Polish Falcons, the Disabled American Veterans, the Knights of Columbus, the Holy Name Society, and the Scott Township Planning Commission.
