Lampros John Kakitsis

Of Scott Township formerly of Mt. Lebanon passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2024 with his wife and son by his side. He was the beloved husband of Marian Romano Kakitsis for 53 years.

Lampros was born on the Greek Island of Chios in the Northern Aegean Sea where he grew up and proudly served as an officer in the Greek Merchant Marines Navy before coming to Pittsburgh. When Lampros arrived from Greece, he became a member of the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Mount Lebanon, where he was a Cantor for many years. He was self educated in the English language and embraced the American way of life.

Lampros and Marian created a beautiful life and family in Mount Lebanon where they were very active at Saint Michael the Archangel Parish, St. Bernard Church. Lampros served as an Usher for years and with Mt. Lebanon Soccer, where his sons played through High School. When their sons were older, they made trips to Greece to visit Lampros’ family.

Lampros wife, sons and grandchildren were the love of his life. Sons Samuel John (Dawne) Kakitsis of Charlotte, NC and John Joseph (Tyann) Kakitsis of Kauai, HI grandchildren Lainie Kathryn and Jonah Nicholas of Charlotte, Isaiah Lampros, Ari Thomas and Mazzy Mae of Kauai.

He was a successful restauranteur in Pittsburgh from Mr. K’s Market Inn in Market Square to Buon Giorno Coffee in Pittsburgh and 7-Springs and Greek Rice Pudding.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the SZAFRANSKI-EBERLEIN FUNERAL HOME, INC. A funeral mass in memory of Lampros will be celebrated July 13 at 10:00 AM at Saint Michael the Archangel Parish, St Bernard Church.
