A soldier was taken home on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at the age of 48.

Loving son of the late Maureen (Conroy) and Harold Humbert, and Mark and Karen Skirpan; twin brother of Matthew (Margaret) Skirpan; Grandson of the late Charles and Margaret (Nuttridge) Conroy; Grandson of the late Jean (Ackman) and John Skirpan; Uncle of Rylee Skirpan, Marlee Skirpan, and Emilee Skirpan; loving and caring nephew, cousin, and friend to many.

He was a strong-willed and proud veteran that served in the active-duty U.S. Army as a small arms and artillery repairer, then transitioned to the Pennsylvania National Guard, where he reclassed to an infantryman and served the remainder of his service contract. His service played an instrumental role in developing a strong work ethic and selfless attitude to apply maximal effort in his personal and professional life.

He was a passionate sports fan that loved hockey and would travel nationally to attend as many games as he could during the season with aspirations and plans to attend the upcoming 2025 4-Nations Face-off International Hockey Tournament in Boston at TD Gardens. Some of his other hobbies included an affinity for motorcycles, dogs, and tattoos. Many who knew Mark would have seen his many Marvel character tattoos, specifically Iron Man, portrayed along his arms.

His tough exterior masked a kind heart that would do anything for his family and friends. He will be dearly and deeply missed by all of his loved ones.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the SZAFRANSKI-EBERLEIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., where family and friends will be received on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 3-7pm at 101 Third St., Carnegie.
