Debra A. Mariano

December 29, 1958

December 16, 2025

Deb passed away peacefully after a brief yet courageous battle with cancer. May she find eternal rest as she is reunited with her beloved parents, Nick and Jean Mariano—now three angels watching over all who loved them.

Deb shared more than 29 wonderful years with her wife, Lynn McIntyre. Together, they built a life centered on family (two and four legged), opening their hearts and home to five dogs and four cats over the years. Though Deb often insisted she “wasn’t a cat person,” she was frequently found chatting with or cuddling them. She will be deeply missed by Bailey, Jasmine, Bashful, Simba, and Lucy.

Family meant everything to Deb. She cherished every moment with her nieces and nephews, celebrating their milestones, cheering them on at games and performances, and embracing the joy of becoming a great-aunt many times over. Whether it was hockey, soccer, flag football, softball, dance, birthdays, holidays, or family vacations, being part of “the kids’” lives brought her immense happiness.

Deb was an avid sports fan. She knew more about the world of sports than most. Of course, the Pittsburgh teams were at the top of the list. She rarely missed watching the Pirates, Steelers, or Penguins. Even in the worst years, she stood by her teams. When her niece started dating a non-Pittsburgh native who did not understand the concept of cancelling school for a Steelers championship parade, Deb decided that boy was not going to last! Thankfully, he’s now part of the family and a Pittsburgh fan as well!.

Deb devoted her life to caring for others and had an extraordinary gift for making people feel welcomed and appreciated. From her many years working at the family bar, Mariano’s in Crescent, to her most recent role in dining services at Robert Morris University, she touched countless lives. Her RMU family—Parkhurst Dining colleagues, students, and faculty held a special place in her heart. Their love and support throughout her illness, through visits, cards, food, messages, and even bingo cards, meant more to her than words can express. The RMU Women’s Hockey team held a special place in Deb’s heart. She treasured her conversations with the players in the café and loved attending and watching their games. During her most difficult times, the team went above and beyond to show their care and support, even taking time from their busy schedules to visit and lift her spirits. We are deeply grateful for the kindness, compassion, and friendship the team so generously shared.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Bridges Hospice for their compassion, guidance, and care.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the SZAFRANSKI-EBERLEIN FUNERAL HOME, INC.

Per Deb's wishes, services and burial will be private.

Those wishing to honor Deb’s life are invited to consider a donation to the Beaver County Humane Society or the RMU Hockey Excellence Fund.
