Josephine A. "Jay" Marra
January 9, 1936
December 31, 2025
On Wednesday, December 31, 2025. Wife of the late Michael P. Marra, Jr.; Loving Mother of Michael (Lori) Marra and Mark (Sally) Marra; Proud Grandmother of Lindsay (David) Chen, Michael W. Marra, Robert (Lauren) Marra, Christopher (Francesca) Marra, Jesse (Fiancée Morgan Zanke) Marra, and Timothy Marra; Great Grandmother of Samuel, Adalyn, Leonardo, and Noah; sister of the late Joe (Dee survives) Larotonda; also survived by sister-in-law Nancy Marra and generations of nieces and nephews.
Jay was a wonderful, loving, and giving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend and neighbor. To know Jay was to feel welcomed and loved. Her home was always open—there was invariably coffee or tea waiting, along with a dessert of some kind—and once you arrived, Jay never wanted you to leave. Whether you were family, a lifelong friend, or a complete stranger, Jay was ready to talk, listen, and make you feel like you belonged.
Family meant everything to Jay and her beloved husband, Mike. She was fiercely proud of her grandchildren and spoke about them every chance she got, her face lighting up as she shared their accomplishments and adventures. Some of her favorite memories were made traveling with those she loved most, including magical family vacations to Disney World and a cruise, as well as a special family trip to Key West. Jay also greatly cherished the yearly trips to Las Vegas, which she looked forward to sharing with her brother Joe and his wife, Dee.
Jay worked for many years at the Signal Item (Knepper Press), then eventually, she chose to leave her job so she could help babysit her grandchildren—a decision she proudly described as her favorite job by far.
A loyal Pittsburgh sports fan, Jay loved all of the Pittsburgh teams, but nothing compared to her devotion to her grandsons’ baseball teams. Jay and Mike attended as many games as they possibly could, cheering from the stands with pride and joy, never missing a chance to support them.
Later in life, Jay embraced technology as another way to stay close to those she loved. She enjoyed keeping in touch using her tablet through FaceTime, Facebook, and Instagram, faithfully liking posts or sending messages— always signed with her signature butterfly emojis!
Jay’s legacy is one of love, generosity, and connection. She brought people together, made everyone feel at home, and reminded all who knew her of the importance of family, kindness, and taking time to sit, talk, and share a cup of coffee. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by the many lives she touched.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the SZAFRANSKI-EBERLEIN FUNERAL HOME INC., where family and friends will be received on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 from 2pm-7pm at 101 Third St., Carnegie.
