Eulogy by: Denise Sauer

There wasn’t a day that went by that I didn’t talk to my mom. Whether it was by a simple text or a phone call or a visit. And every morning, of every day, we wished each other a Happy Monday, happy Tuesday ….

My mom was giving, caring, supportive, compassionate, feisty, strong willed and funny . She always gave it to you straight but loved fiercely with all her heart .

For example , On Easter , Matt wore bright orange tennis shoes to her house … and she abruptly and honestly told him how ugly they were and that she would have to walk on the opposite side of the street from him. She repeated those words many times that day. But on her very last day here , she reached for him and grabbed his neck and hugged him tight .

Her and my dad were married for nearly 58 years. And for as long as I can remember they were inseparable . She would call him on his cell phone when he was cutting grass or if he ran down to the store to see when he was coming back in the house . They had 2:00 cookie time together each day . They had an amazing love story. He got to sing her one last song before she left us .

Her greatest blessings were her grandchildren . I think she was probably one of the only grandmas who knew how to check their location on snapchat. But she did it every night before she went to bed to make sure kayla and Jake were home safe and where they should be . She worried about all of us constantly , me and Matt, my brother, my kids and sometimes for silly reasons but that was because of her fierce love for us . Rich, who is going to remind us to turn the clocks back this fall ?

She loved Facebook. She really believed that everything she saw there was true. And if you know her April the Giraffe story from Facebook , you’re one of the lucky ones …. I know she would have loved all the comments she received on her obituary and I hope she’s reading them all and making her classic comments on them. If you were her Facebook friend , you know what I mean .

I don’t know how the next days or weeks or months will be for me , life just won’t be the same without my mom in it . But I know she is breathing freely now .

I love you mom and I miss you something terrible .

Happy Thursday mom .
