September 3, 2025

Age 87, of Carnegie, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on September 3, 2025, at the VA Medical Center in Aspinwall.

Jim proudly served his country for twenty years, beginning as an Air Force aviation mechanic and later as an Army helicopter pilot, including distinguished service during the Vietnam War. His valor earned him the Purple Heart and the Silver Star, honors he accepted with pride.

He is survived by the love of his life, Patricia (Harbin) Scarfone, his devoted wife of 67 years. James is the proud father of Jeanna Scarfone, Jamie Sarvas, and James Scarfone. He was cherished by his grandchildren Mason Scarfone, Angela (Garrett) Browning, Nicholas (Sara) Scarfone, Justin (Jennifer) Iorio, Holly (Joe) Reichard, Taryn Sarvas, and Sam Sarvas, as well as his great grandchildren Eli Scarfone, Max Scarfone, Rowan Browning, Talon Browning, Sophia Iorio, Luke Reichard, Kate Reichard, Gabe Reichard, and Ben Reichard, who will always remember his love, generosity, and dependability.

In retirement, Jim enjoyed simple pleasures- watching golf and classic westerns, and taking his Cadillac out on the town. His life was marked by love for family, dedication to service, and a steadfast spirit that touched everyone around him.

Jim’s courage and legacy of service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the SZAFRANSKI-EBERLEIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., where family and friends will be received on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 11am-12 noon at 101 Third St., Carnegie. A Blessing Service will take place in the funeral home on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 12:00 noon.
